First Look at Dark Angels!

Dark Angels Revealed by Angela Grace
The first quarter of 2011 has been a real rat-race. I've been wrapping up the first draft of a new story, the plot of another, and making plans for a new non-fiction with a top paranormal investigator.

It's been a busy time personally, too. January, I turned a year older. That's always stressful once you pass twenty-eight. February, I spent fighting one illness after another in my family. Then March brought plans for my oldest child's Sweet Sixteen, had food poisoning, and had my right hand slammed in the hall bathroom door. The physician I saw an hour later swore that it wasn't broken, despite the swelling and intense pain. Now, it's sort of yellowish, has a knot over the pinky bone behind the knuckle, hurts like heck when I bump it, and still has scabs from the cuts, but it's much better!

So, here's a preview of the new book "Dark Angels Revealed" by me, Angela Grace , which will hit shelves May 11th. I'm curious to see your comments on this vampire non-fiction's eye-candy. If you like Twilight, Vampire Diaries, True Blood, or any of the top vampires and dark heroes, you'll enjoy this new book. And best of all, you can pre-order it through any bookstore or online retailer.

And if you can get the book to me, I'd be honored to autograph it.

Happy 2011!

It’s 2011 and with the new year, there are new resolutions. I’ve always seen New Year’s Resolutions as ridiculous statements. That’s probably because I’ve typically fallen short of following through on those self-promises.

This year, I am happyNewYear0SMkeeping my resolution simple: I promise to take better care of myself. Yeah, it’s a basic concept, but for me it’s so difficult at times. Whether my best friend needs help or I just want to spend more time with family, I tend to put my own needs and wants on the back burner. As a mom of two (16 yr. and 10 mo.), I fall into the  same rut so many moms do, making sure they look polished and have every desire met instead of carving out time for myself.

Well, this year I hope to level the scales a bit. We moms owe it to our kids to make sure we’re happy, healthy, and fulfilled. We set the examples they will follow later in life, just as I’m following my mom’s example. In the end, it may pose harder to enact than any resolution I’ve made before. Behaviors are often the hardest things to change.

So, what’s your resolution?

If you’ve got tips on helping me keep my resolution, feel free to post them. And above all else, have a happy new year!

Johnny Depp on Dark Shadows Movie

According to Vampires.com, Johnny Depp is now talking about his much anticipated movie adaptation of Dark Shadows. They report that "though he's wanted to play Barnabas since he was a kid, Depp is still in the process of figuring out just how to show off this character on the big screen." Depp says of his character: "'He's coming around...He's a guy who I think is going to be very interesting. He's going to be a lot of fun in a very outside and strange way. I'm excited.'"

He also adds of the delays in the start of the movie, which was originally reported to film in 2010 but has been moved to 2011: "'I'm working on the script, and it's been kind of a long time coming, but I think I'm getting a script that I like,' he said. I don't really like talking because I'm not really sure what's happening yet, but I'm excited about it. I think, yes, finally for me, it's getting to be the right tone.'"

Zombies, Vampires, and Haiku

So, I stumbled upon the engenius and entertaining blog of Zombie haiku at Fix It Or Deal and thought this was a great way to get in the Halloween spirit. Since I am a novelist, not a poet, they're bound to suck...but I figured I might as well go first since this is my blog. To acknowledge FIOD's influence on today's post , I turn to my favorite Zombie movie, Shaun of the Dead for a zombie haiku.

Shaun of the Dead
Shaun, oh, Shaun. It's you!
Do what zombie killers do.
Bash 'em in the head.

Splat. Thunk. Oozing brains.
We'll meet at the Winchester.
You've got red on you.

Then, for my own spin, I thought I'd write another atrocious haiku inspired by True Blood.
True Blood - Eric Northman
Bon Temps is my home.
No other place I'd soon roam,
Except maybe North
To club Fangtasia.
Viking nibbles with Eric
cause TruBlood is bland.

And finally a return to the classics with Nosferatu.
Creeping, gnarled little man,
you desperately need a tan.
A manicure, too!

Okay, so we know that my haiku couldn't really get any worse. Now it's your turn. Post one for us to see on the Halloween topic of your choice. Of course, I prefer to see vampire inspired works, but it's up to you. Let's just have fun with it.

Haiku format:
first line – Five syllables
second line – Seven syllables
third line – Five syllables

Psychic Vampires – What Are They? by Allison Mac

Psychic Vampires – What Are They? by Allison Mac

Historically a psychic vampire has been a creature that lurks in the dark or shows up in ones dreams and drains them of their life force, leaving them listless and ill.  Folklore and literature is full of occurrences of these psychic vampires.  What significance does a psychic vampire have in today’s world though?

Some would say that the ‘past’ psychic vampires were simply a way of describing what today would have been diagnosed as leukemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or iron deficiency.  Without words in the past to describe these illnesses, people assumed they must be caused by something ‘evil’ like a psychic vampire.

However presently there are many people who describe themselves as psychic vampires and try to help, teach and educate us about them.  A psychic vampire would be described as a person who is unable to generate their own energy or store their own energy and therefore needs to obtain vital energy from outside sources.  A psychic attack then takes place where the psychic vampire receives energy and the victim experiences a great loss in energy.  Many psychic vampires are not even aware of what they are doing consciously.

These are some traits of a psychic vampire:

•    Low energy
•    Needs constant reassurance
•    Never feels satisfied
•    Craves nurturing
•    Feels abandoned or rejected

These psychic vampires create experiences of havoc for their victims, often unknowingly so that they can feed on their energy and feel better themselves.  We are not however incapable of protecting ourselves from a psychic vampire attack.  The best way to protect oneself is to put up an energy field around ourselves.  A psychic vampire simply uses what little energy they have to feed on our energy.  So we must put up a shield to block their energy.  Every day put up a white light shield of protection around yourself and you will not be susceptible to psychic vampires.

We have all had the experience of someone zapping our energy.  A psychic vampire is simply a term used to describe such a person who does this.  We all have energy that we can work with whether we put it to good use or to bad use.  Use your own energy to shield yourself and you’ll be amazed at how much more energized you feel.

Gothic Costumes: Vampire, Sorcerer & Witch Costume by Debbie Fashions

Witches or "wise women" have been celebrated or feared for centuries. But throughout time there have always been good witches, bad witches, witches that stand out or even witches that blend into the crowd and look like you or I. There are tend to be witch accessories or even traits that are associated with whatever kind of witch costume you want to create or buy. Which of those accessories will be good for your costume? Whichever style of witch costume you choose, follow these tips and tricks for the best Halloween costume.

First determine whether you want to be a good or bad witch. You will need a big hat either way.. Wear layers of dark clothing. You will need a cape, which you can make with fabric and pin at the neck or by cutting up the middle of an old skirt that you were planning to give away. . You can either temporarily dye or spray your hair to give it some darker color. If you don't want to color your hair, costume wigs are much easier. Many traditional witches are portrayed with green, wrinkly skin. If you decide against any costume make up, just make sure you have a tall witch hat and long flowing black hair. Other important witch costume accessories to have are a cauldron.

Good witch costumes usually have a crown instead of a witch hat. You can dye your hair with any bright colors for that happy witch look. Don't forget your magic wand! Most good witches are sexy witch costumes. You can shop many styles of very sexy witch costumes. You may not even need to cast a love spell on your prey while in a sexy witch costume like this!

Of course, if this is just too much to fit into your busy good witch/bad witch schedule, you might want to consider buying these Halloween costumes online. You can choose from:

• Sorceress Classic Witch
• Coffin Witch
• Haunted House Mistress
• Sexy Pink Witch
• Midnight Sorceress Witch

Have a bewitching evening, be you good or bad...

A Short History of Vampires and Sock Puppets by Tauqeer Hassan

Vampire stories have always been a source of attraction for the people while sock puppetry is a form of art used to express a story by using puppets made from socks. Vampires are scary creatures known for sucking blood of their victims as many horror films portray them. Sock puppets are characters made from socks with designed designs and styles.

The oldest story of vampire comes from the times of Ancient Babylon. A novel called “Dracula” was published in 1897 by Bram Stoker. Since then, people have been attracted and many movies have been made on the topic. Puppets were used in India as early as 11th century BC and they had quickly spread to other part of the continent. They were a source of giving stories on moral issues in a visual impact that words alone could not convey.

In ancient times, drinking blood was always considered a demon act and evil was characterized as a creature that preyed on humans and in case of vampires turning the victim into a vampire. Puppets have been always used to represent good, evil, jealousy and greed without taking the risk of identifying individuals who might take revenge against the storyteller. The term of sock puppet is also used for the describing a fictitious identity for promoting a particular point of view or defending a person who is seen as controversial.

It is interesting to know that vampires were mostly beautiful women in ancient history and seducing their victims was a trap to kill them and drinking their blood was a source of sustaining life. Popular culture sock puppets have been widely used in television shows during these modern times.

The vampire stories became popular in the late 1800s but became even more popular after the publication of Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1898. This story fused history and fiction in a believable manner for the first time and resulted in several well publicized vampire and Dracula adventures.

In the dark years in England and France, radicals who desired for the freedom they had known before the rise of the puritans had secretly organized theater shows but were often forced to use puppets since these were easier to transport and conceal than the sets, costumes and large bands of actors although some were arrested and imprisoned.

The sock puppets are mostly seen as offensive and are aggressively hunted down along with their creators on prominent community based websites and major forums.

Belief in the evil spirits was common for thousands of years even after the introduction of Christianity. Vampires were historically very fearful creatures for the Slavic people. Although vampires are real or fake is still a point to debate but people watch vampire movies with great interest.
